I will be elk hunting on 8 acres … usually come on my property to eat apples … or simply venue. What would you recommend to attract the elk on my property? Elk call? food? help! 
Im using a 12 gauge shotgun w / slugs
You already have them in the habit of coming on your property of apples do not need anything more .* The vast majority of large and small game is harvested within 100 yards or less .* An indicator 12 be fine for picking them .*

Olympic Elk Herd Management Plan – Washington State
The Olympic Elk Herd is one of the ten that have been identified in the state Washington. It's located on the Olympic Peninsula, west of the canal of the chapel, and north of the Chehalis River. This herd, unlike many others, has A similar pattern is modern has historically maintained. herd numbers were highest at the end of 1970. Through Department of Natural Resources, Washington State manages 368,000 hectares of forest land in this area. Another 255,000 hectares are part of indigenous lands reserve. The remaining land belongs to private residents, agriculture and wood industry companies. The core of the area consists of the Olympic Mountains. Lowlands are surrounded by very low level. The strips of lowlands vary between two and ten miles wide on the east side, from ten to twenty miles wide on the west side, and thirty miles wide along the south side of the peninsula.
The human impact on this herd of elk has been both directly and indirectly. commercial timber operation and management of forest lands after they have had most impact, opening up areas with abundant forage for elk. The number of elk increased, resulting in the highest population during the 1970s. As more intensive management in logged areas has recently commenced, the amount of available forage for elk has been reduced. From the clear cuts burning has been reduced, less ideal environment for the development of forage for elk have been created. However, timber companies have chosen herbicide-spraying, removal of plants that provide food for moose. Construction of roads for logging operations has also had an impact, such as elk avoid roads and these roads will also improve access to legitimate hunters and poachers.
The largest source of mortality in the Olympic Elk Herd is the collection by hunters. The increased availability of roads has encouraged this, as ease of travel makes finding animals and transporting easy. However, today's figures are up to thirty and four percent of the population in mid-1990 estimate of 6,000 moose. This means that recent restrictions on human access to the animals is the replacement of its population.
Currently, management targets for the Olympic Elk herd include working closely with affected Native American tribes, as well as administrators private and public land. The maintenance of suitable habitat moose in the lands controlled by these groups is an important part of managing these animals. Other goals include increasing the combined number of elk at least 11 350 people outside the National Olympic Park, maintaining a proportion of twelve hundred bulls cows after the hunting season is over, and increase and improve the habitat in which it is a limiting factor in achieving population objectives in the management plan.
From moose can be a nuisance to private owners, minimizing the damage caused by elk is also a concern. Working with owners to minimize the density of roads in areas where heavy traffic is a problem is foreseen, as well as work to improve elk forage and habitat on private lands. More accurate survey is also desired to have a more precise idea of the current moose population. In general, the management plan requires the reversal of the fall of Olympic Herd numbers, to ensure that populations on the Olympic Peninsula can be hunted in the foreseeable future.
