Bow Hunting – New Age Robin Hood?
Bow hunting is considered to be a manly sport, but there are a number of women who take part in bow hunting and have completely changed the levels of the game. People learn how to control their hunt with bow hunting and learn new things regarding tuning in to themselves and using their bodily capacity in order to improve at the hunt. Without the protection of a firearm, people often find it dangerous and psychologically challenging to bow hunt and are often intimidated.
Those who seek old fashioned adventure will not fail to take to bow hunting and those who are already good at it will probably want to know about all the new additions that have been made to the sport. Breaking the safety zone is an extremely important part of bow hunting that all hunters should be aware of. This is done in order to shoot the prey easily. Traditionally, the hunters who used firearms had relative safety as they could stay at a good distance from the prey, whereas a bow hunter needs to creep up to the prey and enter the danger zone with the animal. In the danger zone, the animal can attack or charge at any moment. Due to this, the hunter needs to be attentive at all times.
With the new additions to bow hunting, a lot of the guesswork that comes with the hunt has been removed. Although a lot of traditional bow hunters are against the new technologies such as night vision and GPS sensors, there are many hunters who welcome the ally as they embark on their adventure and challenge of bow hunting. There are two schools of thought that hunters follow. But all the hunters have only one goal in mind irrespective of whether they are old school hunters or prefer the new technologies. Ultimately every hunter wants to enjoy his or her hunt and bring the prey down.
There are a number of hunts that people like to go on. Big game hunts have gained a lot of popularity and they usually include wolves, elk, caribou, mountain lions and mountain goats. There are many ambitious hunters who tend to bow hunt after bears. These days, the demand for bear hunting has increased, especially hunts related to archery. Like people like to run with bulls, bear hunting is also considered to give a rush to the hunter that delivers the kind of thrill that few other activities can give.
A lot of people prefer to book bow hunting excursions or trips with different trip leading companies. Usually these companies take a certain group of hunters into a specific area that is known to have a good deal of the required animals. Usually the hunting company brings along a guide who monitors all the action from a particular position and offers his tips and expertise to the hunters of the party. These trips depend greatly on the seasonal conditions so all those who seek a bow hunting experience should ensure that they pay attention to which season is top for hunting.
Usually, the hunting guide takes her or his party to an area where the density of the required animal is the highest. They then proceed to set up the camp and start looking out for baiting locations. After the bait is placed in different locations, the area where the hunt should take place is designated. While the hunters set up all their apparatus, the guid typically goes through a couple of safety techniques and ground rules. After a while the animals will begin appearing and the hunt can start.

how to hunt a deer water hole and past buck areas?
How do I hunt a water hole most likely being used by deer and when would they be using this source? what time of day? Also 2 years ago a buck was in a certain area in the woods probably quarter-half mile from this water source. I don’t believe he was shot. is there a chance that that buck or another buck came into that area this season?
The pros use cameras and trail counters ( the mark time of day an animal went by ) to help track animal movement. Cameras are obviously best since you know what type of animal it was. ( that monster buck !! )
Typical technique for hunting a water hole is a tree stand or blind. I would prefer the blind since it is safest. Setup the blind early in the morning ( still dark out ) and plan to spend the morning hours there after dawn.
Multiple bucks could be in the area. Try to identify this by the tracks they leave.
Deer travel to and from bedding areas to water/food sources. Bucks can be elusive and typically move at dawn and dusk to prevent from being seen.
Deer Hunting With Dogs
Have you ever enjoyed hunting deer with dogs? Did you enjoy the hunting sport? But some time it is not possible to always spot the deer especially in the Southern states. You will come across different terrains to locate the deer. Sometime to hunt one animal we use other animals like dogs for hunting the deer. I have no experience of using them for hunting but have seen them in action. But more than the dog hunter the foxhunters are considered a good sport.
Another poacher of my acquaintance had a deer dog that was deer proof. So much so that the owner offered a suspicious warden one hundred dollars if he (the warden) could persuade the dog to chase a deer. The warden was satisfied and the dog’s owner was perfectly safe in making the offer, but that dog was about the best aid that a poacher could wish. Healthy deer were perfectly safe from him. I saw a deer run within a hundred feet of the dog and he never even looked at the deer. It was different when his master used his gun. The dog would be off at the sound of the shot and, if the deer had been wounded and not killed, he would chase, catch and hold the animal until the man could approach and make the kill.
Most of the legal deer hunting in which dogs are used is done in some of the Southern States—in areas where there are large private estates. It seems to be more a “gentleman’s sport” than one the common people can enjoy—more a holdover of the English nobility or southern aristocracy idea than a sport of American democracy.
The excuse is that the deer are in such inaccessible places that the use of dogs is necessary in order to have any success at all. I know that there are many places in the South which I would not want to enter and where it would be almost impossible to see a deer, let alone to shoot one, but we have a few places here in Maine that are nearly as bad. I know of one tract of several thousand acres where deer are plentiful, but hunters shun it. There is no visibility and I often have been forced to crawl on hands and knees in order to make any progress. Such places are better left as sanctuaries where deer will have a chance to live and increase.
The overflow from these areas would soon provide good hunting in neighboring sections. I believe that it is better to do this than it is to use dogs to drive the last deer out of the refuge, to be shot by a favored few. The shooting of deer from trains, airplanes and automobiles is illegal in most places, and rightly so. Aside from the sporting angle, the use of a loaded gun in a confined space can be dangerous to anyone who may be with the shooter.
Accidents can happen and it is senseless to expose any one to any unnecessary risks. From a sporting standpoint, riding along a road with a gun stuck out of the window of an automobile and shooting any deer that might be seen, is about as sporting as shooting fish in a barrel. Deer have not acquired a fear of automobiles and will often feed in full view of a highway, to the delight of nature lovers. To take advantage of the deer’s lack of fear is, definitely, not sporting.
Even though it is great fun to hunt the deer, I believe that the more you take care in hunting the better you care safe from any unlawful or accidents. Unfearful nature of deer can sometime be a delight to the nature’s lovers and they are dangerous as well when you travel on the highways. There are some good dogs that could be of good help when going for hunting deer. And there some dogs again that does not like to hunt for deer. They are called deer proof. Deer hunting could earn you a good amount of money as well if you know how to trade it.

Deer Hunting Contests – The Running Controversy And The Regulations Imposed
As with any sport, a competitive streak runs through deer hunting. Hunters are always swapping stories of how large a buck was, or how many points it had, even to the point of extreme exaggeration. So it makes sense that for as long as hunting has existed for sport, there have been hunting contests to award bragging rights to the hunter who bagged the biggest trophy. But some fear that the hunting contest takes a step in the wrong direction; many worry that hunters are killing deer for bragging rights alone, and not to use the meat and carcass of the deer as is preferred. Because of this negative criticism, many groups have discontinued hunting contests all together.
Those who criticize the practice of hunting contests do so under the assumption that hunters “shoot to kill”, instead of shooting to use the meat of the animal. Some contests have tried to offset this criticism by changing the rules. For instance, the World Hunting Association, long known for their deer hunting contest, proposed the idea of using tranquilizers to only knock the deer out for a period of time, but that proposal received even more scrutiny; many protesters said it would be animal cruelty, so the WHA returned to the traditional format.
Deer hunting has been closely regulated by the Department of Natural Resources for many decades so hunters will not adversely effect the deer population. Hunting contests, by their very nature, encourage the hunter to bag the biggest trophy, so another concern is that an irresponsible hunter may try to take a deer by illegal means. If hunters decide to disregard the laws set in place, the deer population could plummet.
One suggestion made has been to allow the hunters to take deer off of only 1,000 square acres of land, thus the deer population would be very strictly controlled. Also, other hunters not participating in the contest who plan to use the meat for food won’t be affected by the abundance of hunters. But while some contests are attempting to find better ways to run their competition, just as many more continue to run their contests in the traditional way.
The best thing a competitive hunter can do is to stick to deer hunting contests that are strongly regulated. This will allow the hunter to compete with minimal interruption from outside criticism. Also, the more regulated a competition is, often times the more challenging, so when a hunter does triumph, the reward will be all the more satisfying.

Pro-deer bowhunting argument misleading
Mr. Cole’s letter regarding the Governors Club deer hunt got it wrong (CHN March 14). This is understandable, as most of his purported “facts” were culled from research by the Ad Hoc Deer Committee, upon which he did not sit.
